For Indigenous Languages

The New Amigos app is currently available in eight Sami versions, as well as in Romani and Kven.

A challenge for many endangered cultures is to make their language popular among the younger generations. For example Kven is a critically endangered language as most of its speakers are over 60 years of age. It was therefore a great honour for New Amigos to get top score from the KVEN YOUTH organisation on their Instagram page for our language combination #40 – Norwegian-Kven.

By introducing New Amigos to primary schools, children are able to love and learn Kven through play.

Our app and board game connect learners of a language and inspire beginners and advanced speakers to learn together, regardless of their prior knowledge and background. Video recordings of native speakers are an important part of the app and players are free to learn the dialect of their choice.

As the game contains a wealth of vocabulary, sentences and dialogues, the video recordings are a very powerful tool for revitalising and documenting endangered languages for future generations. The New Amigos app is a fun, educational, game-based app where the players acquire language skills without the need of a teacher or a fluent speaker.
